There's a certain coolness
that lingers on my shoulder
when I am apart from you;
I am aware
of the spaces within my atoms,
the smallest of infinities,
the wishes that you were by my side.
The cold used to be cozy,
nestled in blankets with
my dog curled on my feet,
but now it is the lack of you
that leaves me longing for warmth.
For tonight,
I'll settle beneath my sheets
and snuggle with my dog,
but there is still that curve in my spine
that waits for you to make whole.
